School Effectiveness Grant and Pupil Deprivation Grant 2014/15

The Welsh Government has announced funding for a grant scheme to support students from poorer backgrounds in their education. The Pupil Deprivation Grant will allow schools to put in place practical help to improve the educational attainment of students from disadvantaged backgrounds, who often face greater barriers to fulfilling their potential at school. Schools will receive the money directly, and the funding will be aimed particularly at supporting literacy and numeracy. Schools will also be encouraged to track the progress of particular students, and to work with parents and community groups to improve outcomes.  At  Victoria CP School this funding (which amounts to approximately £49,446 in 2014/15) was used for a range of purposes. Staff News

Dear Parents,

This July we will be saying goodbye to some wonderful people at Victoria CP School – fantastic people who have made such an impact on the lives of your children.

Firstly, Mrs Sarah Morris-Hughes will be leaving us for a well-deserved promotion as the new Deputy Headteacher at Sant Dunawd, Bangor on Dee. Mrs Morris Hughes is an outstanding teacher who has given so much to Victoria CP School and who has done so much to help inspire the caring and compassionate ethos of our school. The staff, children and governors will sorely miss her. Sant Dunawd’s gain but our loss.

Mrs Grassby will also be leaving us and moving on to pastures new to enjoy her early retirement. Mrs Grassby is an amazing Nursery Nurse and Teaching Assistant. Her dedication, positivity and sense of humour have shone brightly in our school for many years.

Miss Hannah Davies, Teaching Assistant and After School Club Assistant will also be leaving us for pastures new. Miss Davies has worked tirelessly with many groups in school and she is highly regarded and liked by staff and pupils alike.

Mrs Debbie Wright and Mrs Amanda Watkins, who have worked with individual pupils for most of their education at Victoria CP School will also be leaving us. Both support workers have created very special bonds with their pupils and they will be sorely missed.

Congratulations to Mrs Kimberely Wright and Mrs Bronwen Prytherch who are expecting! Both will be starting their maternity leave in September. We wish you both the very best.

And finally, congratulations to Mr Hodges who will be getting married next week. We all hope you have a wonderful day.

We have three new members of staff joining our team – Miss Catrin Jones, Miss Anderton and Miss Weller. We wish them the best of luck in their new roles.

Have a great half term,

Mrs Debbie Eccles

Victoria CP Book Stall at Wrexham Street Festival

We had a brilliant day at the Street Festival yesterday. Thank you to the children who helped. Also a big thank you to all the parents who donated and recycled their children’s books. We raised a little shy of £140 and this money will be spent on new topic books for each classroom in school. Hopefully, we will be doing the same in a few months time.

Author Visit – Ceci Jenkinson

We had a fabulous visit from local author Ceci Jenkinson.  Ceci shared her writing inspirations with the children and talked through the writing and publication process. We hope Ceci will be able to work with us again soon and continue to inspire our children to write wonderful, creative stories.

Football Success!

Well done to our amazing football tean who won both their games today. You look brilliant in your new football kit. Thank you Mr Hodges for training the boys and girls!

Drama Club

Well, the drama club members have been working solidly for over 6 months on the production of ‘What a Knight!’ and finally we are READY! The children have worked incredibly hard learning their lines and it’s well and truly paid off. It was our last rehearsal today and the children were brilliant. They also looked amazing in their costumes – thank you parents. I guarantee you will be amazed with the talent!

There are still tickets available for Wednesday afternoon and Thursday evening.

Wrexham Town Clean Up Day

We are very proud of our Eco-Committee who have made a big difference in their town today. The children worked incredibly hard cleaning the streets, shop doorways, road signs and they even got rid of chewing gum on the streets. Thank you to our wonderful Eco-Committee, Grace, George, Ms Sheriff and Mr Evans for accompanying the children.
